CHALLENGING TIES FOR SERVICE TEAMS IN CHALLENGE CUP ROUND 2 DRAW


AS posted last night the daw has been made for this years Challenge Cup 2nd Round


The Army have a tough home tie against the London Chargers whilst the RAF travel to West Yorkshire to take on the Batley Boys.


On 17 January 2013 in The Merchant pub, Clapham Junction, players from South London Storm and West London Sharks met to discuss a merger. Both teams were extremely successful teams in their own right. South London Storm made the Harry Jepson trophy final in 2005, then again in 2006, winning the competition. West London Sharks made the Harry Jepson final on three occasions December 2015, the club announced they will re-brand to ‘London Chargers’ and competed in the Conference League South, the highest level of amateur rugby league in the south of Britain.


In their first year of trying, the Chargers first team were victorious, winning the Conference League South against Valley Cougars in a resounding 40-0 victory. In 2017, they drew a home game against Bridgend Blue Bulls in their first round game of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup and won 116-0. In the second round, they went on to play play Fryston Warriors, going down 40-12.


This year saw the Chargers beat Hammersmith Hill Hoist their bitter London League rivals thus avenging their loss in the 2017 London League final.


The Batley Boys topped the Yorkshire Men's League last season with a straight 16 from 16 winning record! The Boys went into the draw for the second round after possibly the shock result of the round with a thrilling 17-16 extra time victory over Underbank Rangers some 4 divisions above them.
