UKAFRL AND ENGLAND RL JOIN FORCES TO COMMEMORATE THE FALL

UKAFRL COO Flt Lt Damian Clayton facilitated a trip to the Ypres Salient for the England RL squad and staff last weekend to commemorate the fallen and pay homage to those that paid the ultimate sacrifice while representing their country. 11,900 fallen Commonwealth soldiers are buried at the cemetery, of which 8,370 are unidentified. They also visited Menin Gate, a place where soldiers marched to get to the Western Front. The gate is now a memorial to fallen soldiers and has their names engraved into it's walls, including the names of five professional Rugby League players who lost their lives: E Doorey, M Kaye, P O'Kell, G W Midgley and P Thomas. The final game of the Autumn Internationals against New Zealand will be played on the 11 Nov 18 at Elland Road, which marks the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War One. The team will also wear a special commemorative poppy jersey as a show of support for the Royal British Legion’s ‘Thank You’ movement
